Top Tips for Dressing a Pillar Body Shape
- Look for styles that highlight your waist and try to use different colours on your top and bottom halves.
- Avoid wearing all one colour from head to toe, dropped waists and boxy jackets.
An Ideal Pillar Body Shape Capsule Wardrobe Should Include:
A feminine blouse because you have the perfect shape for a blouse, pick one that has slight details like ruffles at the neckline or a belt type feature (can be a ribbon type belt) around the waist.
A sweater with round neck because the round neck will be more flattering for you than a V, scoop or boat neckline. Pick a sweater in a fine knit, one that is too chunky will hide your waist. The hem should finish just below the hip bones.
Slight Bootcut slacks because the flare in the leg of the slacks will add curves to your body.
Skinny jeans. You are one of the few body shapes that can truly rock the skinny jean so invest in a good pair.
Cropped Trousers. Either 7/8 or 3/4 length will work for you. Pick one based on what your dressing needs are, i.e. the 7/8 may be more work appropriate than the 3/4 length.
An A-line skirt because the curve in the side seam will help to create curves.
A wrap or bias cut dress because these styles will highlight your curves. Pick one in a light floaty fabric with a pattern. A block colour won’t be as flattering as a pattern.
A single button or peplum style jacket because the single button or peplum cut will draw attention to your waist, effectively breaking up your torso and lower body. Try a contrasting colour to your slacks that also complements your other items.
A classic trench – 3/4 length. The belt will accentuate the waist. Choose a versatile colour and try to avoid wearing it unbelted.
A classic pump in an almond toe or a peep toe: the heel thickness isn’t important, but the toe shape is. A pointed toe will make your legs appear even longer, which is also fine if that is the look you are after.
Mid-calf length boots with an average heel thickness and slight gathering.
